“The MegaFish Project” Saving the World’s Largest Freshwater Fish Species

Scientists at the University of Nevada, Reno, supported by National Geographic, have launched a program to save the world’s largest freshwater fishes like the Mekong Delta Catfish, and other similar giant species, which linger at the brink of extinction. Efforts to preserve these “piscine patriarchs” include Public Education, Incentives for local fishermen to protect the fishes, so they will propagate naturally, and creating hatcheries for breeding these species for subsequent release in the wild.
