Huge Fossil Snake Discovered…as long as a School Bus

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Recently, an international team of scientists anounced the discovery in an open pit coal mine in Northern Columbia of the fossilized remains of the largest snake every known. Titanoboa lived some 58-60 million years ago in the hot, lush tropical rainforest environments of that time. This behemouth (over 43 feet long…the length of a Tyrannosaurus Rex) apparently was mainly aquatic, and dined on large crocodiles and fresh water turtles that were  common to this type of habitat. Space Rock Gives Earth a "Close Shave"

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

An Asteroid somilar in size to the one that exploded over Tunguska, Siberia in 1908, raced by the Earth at 1344 GMT on Monday, March 2 at a distance of about 44,750 miles above the Earth’s surface (about one-fifth of the distance between Earth and the Moon). Estimated diameter of this rock was between 21and 47 meters (68-152 feet). The estimated size of this Asteroid is similar to the estimated size of the Asteroid or Comet that exploded over Siberia, flattening 80 million trees over a swath of over 2,000 square kilometers (800 square miles). The force of this explosion was estimated to be the equivalent of a thousand Atomic Bombs. To read the full story CLICK.
