On September 28, 2008, the Fundraiser and kickoff event for the Secret Rose Theater’s “Actoberfest” was held at the Barnsdell Gallery Theater in Hollywood, CA. Live performances were presented by several affiliated Theater Groups. The event was was well attended, and was, by all measures, an unqualified success.

During the performance, Dr. Maynard was presented with the first “Guardian Angel Award” by Director, Producer and Theater Owner, Kaz Matamura. This award, given for Dr. Maynard’s support of the Secret Rose Theater and Fire Rose Writer’s Lounge, was inscribed as follows: “Guardian Angel Award, 2007-2008, presented to Dr. Elliott Maynard, Arcos Cielos Research Center, for giving Fire Rose Productions the ability to reach out to youth who otherwise would not be included in performing arts programs.” This unexpected award was received with deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation from Dr. Maynard.

The sixth annual Actoberfest, which runs from October 19th through November 9th includes a Ten-Minute Play Contest, and will be held at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica, CA. Sixteen plays will be presented over a two-week period. This Festival is part of Fire Rose Production’s New Works Program. The goal of this program is to seek original and innovative work by writers committed to furthering their craft in a suportive and creative environment. According to Director, Kaz Matamura, “The Festival is an opportunity for playwrights to have their works mounted in a professional setting using professional actors and directors. The New Works Program assists in expanding, enriching and stimulating the playwright’s growth and potential.” For more information CLICK HERE.
