Old Milwaukee Factory Produces Perch, Tilapia, Fresh Veggies

May 29th, 2010

Only a few decades ago, yellow perch were so plentiful in Lake Michigan, that fishermen could catch all they wanted with just a pole and some worms, but with increased industrial pollution, and invasive species like the zebra mussel, which consume food items for the baby perch, this traditional fishery became a thing of the past. Now, however, entrepreneur, Joe Fraundorf, has converted an old crane factory into an aquaculture facility which is raising 80,000 yellow perch and tilapia in ten-foot deep intensive culture tanks. A third network would extend south through Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, and Malaysia. The trains will be designed to travel at a speed of 320 kph. To read the full article, CLICK HERE.
